.PRAYER.
Is it real for you?
..... I have yet to be convinced .....
..... You keep saying that "prayer is real and necessary" .....
..... Is there really anyone 'out there' listening to ME? .....
..... Is the person listening going to answer ME? .....
When I asked someone what they were going to
do one weekend the reply was
"I don't know, I might ring 111".
A call for help. If you call 111 help comes in the form of the police, the ambulance, or the fire brigade.
Calls for help needing these services are fortunately not day to day events. Most of us just need help with the day to day problems - how to pay the bills, what school to send the children to, will I get the job I applied for, does the new boy like me. Very important to us personally but not earth shattering to the world at large.
Who will be interested? Certainly not the police, the fire brigade, or the ambulance service.
For me personally God's telephone number is always on my mind ... Jeremiah 3:33 "Call and I will answer". *I for one am convinced.
God can and will answer our prayers and it is necessary for both our personal growth and for the growth of our Corps as a whole.
Imagine if a member of your family living in the same house as you never spoke to you. How would you feel? It's not a good feeling - being ignored and not being listened to.
How to be convinced that God can and does answer prayer?
There is only one way. To experience it.
How to experience a prayer relationship with God? By communicating with him both privately and with a group.
If you are yet to be convinced think of your world without communication with those you love - not a nice thought is it? Think of how your relationships develop by communicating. The same can apply to your relationship with God.
Also by talking to God things change. God does listen. People change - concerns are addressed - life changing things happen.
To be convinced (do you want to be?) next time you need to call out will your thought be to call 111 or to call on God? His line is never busy, never off the hook and he always answers.
A personal experience is the way to be convinced. One word at a time - God will do the convincing. He's just waiting for the opportunity.
My prayer is that we will all be convinced that God can and does answer prayer and that it is the foundation of our Corps - the Browns Bay Corps of the Salvation Army in New Zealand!
